Online Survey Update - Great Response

The project team is very pleased to be able to report the excellent response received from the online victim/survivor survey.  The survey which was open for some 6 months received 336 respondents, 88% of respondents were female and 12% male. While statistical analysis of locale has not been fully undertaken approximately 60% of respondents recorded a metropolitan address and the remainder from regional/rural locales.

A crucial part of the survey was to get qualitative data and to achieve this respondents to the survey were invited to be further involved in individual interviews or focus groups. The response to this invitation was significant resulting in 75 Victim/survivors participating.  This sample size is larger than the AIC national study resulting in the report “no longer silent “conducted in 2005.

The Project Team wishes to thank those victim/survivors who had the courage to share their experiences about reporting decisions which will provide valuable data to assist support agencies and Victoria Police to compare those responses to current practice. This result could not have been achieved without the considerable efforts of the researchers on the project who were prepared to travel across the state and work long hours to conduct interviews.

The project team wishes to express its gratitude to  Melbourne, Northern and Barwon Casa Offices for making their premises available for interviews and focus groups. These offices along with a number of local community centres and other support agencies provided a safe environment for victims/survivors to come and fully participate.

The very rich set of data gathered is now being collated and analysed and we expect to be able to produce some preliminary reports and journal articles with the approval of our industry partner Victoria Police shortly. Progress and interim finding will be updated on this project website when available. A final project report is expected sometime late in 2011.
